You push away every thought of coming disaster, but your actions only bring the day of judgment closer… You drink wine by the bowlful and perfume yourselves with fragrant lotions. You care nothing about the ruin of your nation. Therefore, you will be the first to be led away as captives. Suddenly, all your parties will end.
Amos 6:3, 6-7 NLT
A comfortable life focused on consumerism and pleasure makes people become proud, abstracted from their reality, frivolous, and indifferent to the pain of the nation in which they live. Such a life does not prepare people for the suffering, the sudden crisis or disaster; on the contrary, this lifestyle attracts disaster and makes those who live like this succumb as its first victims.
