Limitations, Service and Prayer!

“They had no children because Elizabeth was unable to conceive, and they were both very old. One day Zechariah was serving God in the Temple, for his order was on duty that week.

Luke 1:7-8 NLT

In the life and ministry of Zechariah and Elizabeth, we can learn the following:

  • Physical limitations or problems that we face are not necessarily a punishment for being bad (1:7); Zechariah and Elizabeth could not have children and however they were righteous in God’s eyes.
  • Serving God is a conviction, not a personal convenience (1:8); Zechariah did not let his personal problems hinder or demotivate him to serve God; he could mourn and disappointed because his request for a son had not been answered, however he decided to remain faithful to their calling to serve God.
  • It is important to have a group to support us in prayer as we serve the Lord (1:10); our ministry will always need the support of others; intercessory prayer always will strengthen our ministerial work.
