“They sweep past like the wind and are gone.
But they are deeply guilty, for their own strength is their god.

In this verse God is referring to the Babylonian Empire, which was renowned for his cruelty and do what he pleased with the peoples he conquered.

This is a good example of how people, abusing power, can generate violence, injustice, fear and repression between those who are weaker.

When people come to rely on their own strength to the point that they abuse of the power, is something that becomes idolatry.

When people rely more on what they can do through their power or their resources, the result is they forget God.

History records that the Babylonian Empire disappeared, but the Bible affirms us that those who trust in the Lord endures forever.
