“But Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword back into its sheath. Shall I not drink from the cup of suffering the Father has given me?

John 18:11 NLT

There are two kinds of suffering in our lives; that what God allows in order to mold us, teach us, to bring us to repentance, and return to Him. There is also the suffering that comes from those who seek to destroy us or by our bad decisions we provoke ourselves.

The first we should not avoid or evade but try to learn while we are in that process, this kind of suffering makes us mature.

Regarding the second kind, we should flee from it, avoid it or leave it as soon as possible; here our prayer should be in order that God rescues or releases us of this suffering.
