Do not sell more slaves
“My lord, I guaranteed to my father that I would take care of the boy. I told him, ‘If I don’t bring him back to you, I will bear the blame forever.”
Genesis 44:32 NLT
God transforms us. By the power of God our past loses the power to control us, because God makes us new creatures, with different thoughts and actions.
For envy, Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers. To hide this fact, they took Joseph’s coat stained with the blood and it was taken to his father; this meant that his son had been devoured by wild animals. The impact of the supposed death of Joseph in Jacob’s life was not something they care.
Some years later, we find Joseph’s brothers had been transformed, so much so that what once didn’t matter now was vital, caring for the lives of others. They had left the selfishness, envy and revenge, no doubt Benjamin became the darling of Jacob, but that did not concern them.
When God transforms us, we care about others. And this is what our society needs today, we stop thinking a bit on us and take an interest in those around us, we stop “selling slaves”, and we ensure the welfare of the weakest.
